What to Wear on a Canopy Tour in Costa Rica: The Complete Checklist

After thousands of guests, we know exactly which outfits fly and which ones fight the harness. Save this checklist for the morning of your tour — and if you haven't picked a date yet, availability for the Skyline Canopy Tour is here.
The golden rules
- Closed shoes. Always. Sneakers or light hiking shoes. Flip-flops stay at the hotel — you cannot zipline in them.
- Shorts to the knee or long, light pants. The harness wraps around your thighs; very short shorts make it less comfortable.
- A fitted t-shirt or top. Loose shirts bunch under the harness straps.
What we provide
- Helmet
- Full-body or seat harness, sized to you (kid sizes included — see our family guide)
- Gloves for braking cables
You do not need to bring or rent any technical gear. Show up dressed; we handle the rest.
Smart extras
- Sunscreen — applied before the harness goes on
- Sunglasses with a strap, or they will meet the forest floor
- Hair tie for long hair (helmets + wind = knots)
- Insect repellent in green season
- A small water bottle for before and after — you fly hands-free
Cameras and phones
Phones ride in a zipped pocket or stay with our team — never loose in your hand on a cable. GoPros with a chest or helmet mount are welcome. Our guides know every photo spot and are shameless professional photographers of other people's vacations; just ask.
What NOT to bring
- Flip-flops, sandals, heels (yes, we have seen heels)
- Dangling jewelry or scarves
- Anything in an open pocket — the forest keeps what falls
Dressing for each tour
- Skyline Canopy Tour (day): exactly this checklist.
- Sunset Canopy Tour: add a light layer — the breeze freshens after the sun drops. Why sunset is worth it.
- ATV / UTV or the combo: same rules plus clothes you are happy to cover in glorious Guanacaste dust.
Green season note
A light rain jacket is nice for the drive, but honestly: ziplining in warm rain, over a glowing green forest, is a core memory. The cables run rain or shine — and if lightning shows up, you reschedule free.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wear glasses? Yes — ideally with a strap. The helmet fits fine over glasses.
Is there a place to leave bags? Yes, our team keeps your things safe while you fly.
What about long hair? Tie it up. Helmets plus 30 km/h of wind write their own horror stories.
